Large Hall

The ceiling has a lattice design with a distinctive curved perimeter. This style is known as a raised coffered ceiling (oriage-go-tenjo).

Oriage-go-tenjo are often used in prestigious buildings such as temples, and it is rare to find them in two adjacent rooms, especially in a ryokan.

The space is surrounded by 12 sliding doors painted by Suzuki Hyakunen depicting the seasonal changes of the year.
